For three nights in a row, from 17 to 19 October, the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai served as the perfect backdrop for the launch of Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur collection of timepieces—where else but the vibrant Chinese city to throw an epic party for a brand that exquisitely melds unbridled innovation and age-old watchmaking techniques together?
Roger Dubuis has long been associated with excess, and guests were treated to nothing less than an extravaganza that comprised plenty of lights, sounds and celebrity sightings. The multi-sensory light show was divided into spaces with different themes like the Watchmaker room and the Minute Repeater room.
The true stars of the show, however, are the exquisite Excalibur Spider Unique Series and the Excalibur Backlight. As its name suggests, the Excalibur Spider Unique Series is the latest iteration of the brand’s signature skeletonised minute repeater, only this time it comes encased in an ultra-light SMC carbon case.
The 28-piece Excalibur Backlight Limited Edition is made with Roger Dubuis’ special lab-grown sapphire, which gives the watch dial an unique glow-in-the-dark (or under UV light) feature, and making the watch appear to be floating like a sculpture. The rainbow-coloured gemstones on the bezel add to its vibrant exuberance.
